Our Spanish school

The Director of the Spanish School

Under the passionate and experienced leadership of our Director Rosana Mateos, IEM is dedicated to providing quality education, with an emphasis on Spanish culture and language learning in a stimulating environment.

History of the IEM

Founded in 1972 as the Spanish Study Center of Montreal, the IEM gradually evolved into the Spanish Institute of Montreal. Originally created for Spanish-speaking children, the school aimed to maintain and cultivate cultural and linguistic ties with the Spanish language.

Over the years, and in response to the strong demand for Spanish courses, IEM has expanded its offerings to include Spanish immersion programs for children and adolescents, even those who do not live in a Spanish-speaking environment.

Today, the IEM is a non-profit organization, partially subsidized by the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Social Security through the embassy. We welcome approximately 150 students aged 3 to 17, in addition to adult classes.

Teaching Staff

The IEM teaching team is composed of qualified and experienced teachers specialized in teaching Spanish as a native and foreign language. All our teachers are passionate about their mission to transmit the Spanish language and culture, offering dynamic classes adapted to each student's level.

Each year, textbooks and teaching materials are updated to ensure a modern and effective approach to learning. Upon completion, students receive a certificate and diploma documenting their studies, and high school students are awarded eight credits from the Quebec Ministry of Education, which are added to their secondary school credits in the Quebec system.

A Dynamic and Committed School

The IEM management team, along with its board of directors, plays an active role in decision-making, managing academic activities, and administering the school. The commitment of our teaching staff ensures a respectful, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment conducive to the personal and academic growth of each student.

We are proud of our heritage and our role in the linguistic and cultural education of younger generations and adults who wish to discover or deepen their mastery of Spanish.
Join IEM for an enriching language journey, where learning Spanish becomes a true cultural and academic adventure!
